The more you read, the better reader you become.

Greetings, students, parents, faculty and staff at Reuben Elementary School. I am Kevin Boozer your new media specialist. I am excited to be SOARING with this group of Eagles and look forward to our time in the library together. This year we will use green screen, videos, puppetry, guitar, augmented reality, computer coding/programming, SCDISCUS, library centers, and more as we become more information literate and as we share "just right" books.

I grew up in Pomaria and am a lifelong resident of Newberry County. This is my fifth year in the School District of Newberry County. I was long term substitute librarian at Newberry Elementary School last year. I was the computer lab manager at NES for three years prior to that. I completed my library degree in May so this is my first full year as a certified school library media specialist. This year I will be at Reuben Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. I will be at Whitmire Community School Tuesday and Friday.

I have firsthand experience in the media field, having worked as a reporter for The Newberry Observer, The Herald Independent and The Whitmire News. I currently write for Newberry Magazine and previously have written for a children's magazine and wrote a children's book for my alma mater, Newberry College.

I have a passion for helping students become critical thinkers, lovers of reading and lifelong learners. Together we will SOAR and take the RES library to new heights.

I look forward to sharing our RES library with each of you!

Mr. Boozer

We have several exciting literacy events taking place this year.

There are pictures of faculty and staff as Eagle Reader cheerleaders posted on our bulletin board outside the library. This year I would like, eventually, for our students to become reader cheerleaders to share "just right books" with one another and with our school.

*  The Read Your Way to the Big Game Program  - complete a reading log and become entered into a drawing for tickets  to see Clemson and the University of South Carolina play.

*  We will do a Super Book contest for South Carolina Association of School Librarian book nominees.

Classroom teachers will continue their incentive programs like "A Time to Read." For "A Time To Read" our students record the minutes they read. Parents verify the records and teachers share a predetermined incentive with our Eagle readers.

Fall Book Fair

Reuben will have its Fall Book Fair December 3-7. The fair will be open Thursday evening for shoppping after the school concert. It will be a great time to do holiday shopping!

There also will be a Scholastic Buy One, Get One Free (BOGO) Book Fair in the Spring.
